Decomposed Dog Found Hanging Near River Thames Pier

The RSPCA is hunting for clues after a dog’s rotting body was discovered hanging from a tree by the River Thames near St. George Wharf Pier, Vauxhall.

A member of the public stumbled on the gruesome scene on Tuesday morning (April 1) and alerted the animal charity. The white and tan dog, badly decomposed, was hanging from a branch beneath a path close to the Riverside pub.

Fire Brigade Teams Up with RSPCA for Rescue

The tricky location forced RSPCA Animal Rescue Officer Julia Pernas to call in the London Fire Brigade. Together, they retrieved the dog’s body from the riverbank.

The carcass was taken to the RSPCA Leybourne Animal Centre for closer examination. Due to advanced decomposition, the dog’s breed and sex could not be identified.

Julia Pernas said: “This poor dog was hanging by a tree branch near a busy pier close to the Riverside pub. Although hard to reach, this spot is well-frequented. We hope someone saw suspicious behaviour before the dog was cruelly abandoned like this.”

She added: “We’re grateful to the London Fire Brigade for their vital support. Teamwork is essential for animal welfare.”

RSPCA Calls Suspicious Death Into Question

The RSPCA is treating the case with suspicion. The dog had no microchip or identifying marks, deepening the mystery.

The area, while tough to access, is popular with walkers. The dog was found near the Riverside restaurant—a place many locals know well.

RSPCA Urges Witnesses to Speak Up

The charity is desperate for anyone with information about the incident or suspicious activity near the pier to come forward.

If you know anything, call the RSPCA appeals line on 0300 123 8018, quoting incident number 01481892.

Multi-Agency Effort to Solve Shocking Case

This grim discovery highlights the vital cooperation between RSPCA and London Fire Brigade in tackling cruel animal abuse cases. The RSPCA is determined to uncover the truth behind how the dog ended up in such a tragic state.

Your tip-off could make all the difference in bringing justice for this poor animal.
