Shock Threats Target Walthamstow School – Police Investigate
Parents in Walthamstow were left rattled on Monday morning after St Mary’s School received a threatening email. Police swooped on the Brooke Road site immediately, launching a full investigation. Local MP Stella Creasy confirmed the threat and urged calm amid fears and rumours.
Threat Hits Schools Beyond London
The alarming message wasn’t just aimed at St Mary’s; other schools outside London reportedly received similar threats. Authorities are treating the situation seriously, with police maintaining a strong presence at the scene.
The incident has ignited fresh concerns about school security, especially as comparable threats have popped up across the UK.
MP Urges Calm and Clarity
“I can confirm that the school has received a threat that is being taken seriously,” Stella Creasy wrote on X (formerly Twitter). “This threat has also been received by other schools outside London. This is the only school in Walthamstow to receive this, and the police are on the site to actively investigate.”
Creasy warned the public to avoid spreading unverified rumours, insisting her statement is the only accurate update so far.
Nursery Moves Out as Precaution
With Easter holidays keeping pupils away, no students were on site when the threat emerged. However, the school’s nursery has relocated as a safety precaution.
“I recognise this is shocking—for someone to threaten a school—and as soon as I have further information, I will share it,” Creasy added, acknowledging the stress for parents scrambling to rearrange childcare.
Police: Threats Not Deemed Credible, Investigation Ongoing
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the threat was reported around 6:30am on Monday, April 14.
“The nursery has chosen to relocate as a precautionary measure, although no pupils were attending the school today due to the Easter holidays. An investigation is ongoing; however, at this stage, the threats are not being treated as credible.”
Police are also working with South Yorkshire Police following similar threats to schools in Sheffield. This raises suspicions of a nationwide hoax or coordinated campaign targeting schools.
Heightened Alert on School Security Nationwide
This wave of threats has boosted police visibility around schools and sparked urgent discussions on digital threat detection and emergency planning in UK schools.
Authorities urge parents and carers to stay calm, rely only on verified updates, and report any concerns to local police immediately.
