Alfriston Floods Spark Water Crisis
The charming village of Alfriston is battling severe flooding that has drowned homes and cut off clean drinking water. Torrential rain has wrecked a local water treatment plant, leaving residents desperate for relief.
Water Shortages Hit Alfriston and Neighbours
South East Water, tasked with fixing the mess, has apologised for the water shortages and low pressure hitting Alfriston, Berwick, Ripe, and Wilmington. Locals face serious disruption as water supplies dwindle.
Emergency Measures Kick In
South East Water has rerouted supplies underground to restore water to most homes in Berwick, Ripe, and Wilmington. But Alfriston remains in trouble. Water tankers are now pumping water directly into the village’s system, offering only an intermittent fix.
Flooding to Blame as Repairs Underway
The flooding caused technical damage to the water treatment works, halting regular service. South East Water staff have worked overnight to get the plant back online. However, full restoration is unlikely before tomorrow.
Where to Get Water Now
- Bottled water is available at The Singing Kettle in Alfriston and Arlington Reservoir Car Park in Berwick.
- These stations closed at 9pm Wednesday but will reopen Thursday morning and stay open until normal supplies return.
Residents are urged to stay patient as South East Water races to end the crisis.
