Fury as Drivers Abuse Parent & Baby Parking Spaces
A fresh campaign is calling for a stiff £25 on-the-spot fine for motorists caught misusing Parent & Child parking bays. The idea has even won backing from some drivers fed up with selfish parkers.
Survey Reveals Support for Tougher Punishments
A recent YourParkingSpace.co.uk survey found that 10% of motorists want repeat offenders banned temporarily from supermarkets altogether. Harrison Woods, managing director at YourParkingSpace.co.uk, said:
“Parent-and-child parking at supermarkets is a hot topic and often creates strong opinion, as demonstrated by our survey results which show most people want some sort of punishment for motorists who use supermarket parent-and-child parking spaces when they shouldn’t be.”
Abuse Spills Over to Disabled and EV Spots
Drivers have also slammed those who flout rules by hogging disabled bays and electric vehicle charging points. This misuse causes real headaches for those who genuinely need the spaces.
An AA spokesman added: “Some supermarkets already fine drivers who abuse mother and baby parking spaces.” But campaigners say this isn’t enough.
With frustration mounting, is it time for supermarkets and councils to get tough on parking space bandits?
