Blaze Breaks Out at Disused Church in Forest Gate

Emergency services rushed to a fire at an abandoned church and community centre on Woodgrange Road, Forest Gate. Six fire engines and around 40 firefighters battled the blaze late last night.

Ground Floor Damaged, One Man Hospitalised

The fire damaged part of the ground floor. One man was taken to hospital after escaping the building before firefighters arrived.

Station Commander Jim Ryan, who led the response, said: Crews arrived to find a fire at a building which was previously used as a church and community hall. One man had left the building before the Brigade arrived and firefighters carried out a search of the property as a precaution.

Road Closures and Fire Units from Across East London

Woodgrange Road was shut between Osborne Road and Romford Road while firefighters made the scene safe. Fire units from Stratford, Leytonstone, East Ham, Leyton, and Ilford stations all attended.

The fire was reported at 10:58pm and brought under control by 11:55pm. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
