Man Jailed for Nearly 15 Years After Stabbing Friend to Death in London
Fatal Row Ends in Tragedy
George Ferrier, 30, from Appleby Road, E16, has been locked up for 14 years and 10 months at the Old Bailey. He was found guilty of manslaughter after killing 33-year-old Steven Fry with a large carving knife. The brutal attack happened after a heated argument in the early hours of Friday, 10 September 2021.
Fight Over Drunken Driving Spirals Out of Control
The deadly dispute took place in the home of a mutual friend on Ringlet Close, Newham. The row started when Steven drove his girlfriend’s car while drunk. Tensions exploded, and Ferrier stormed to the kitchen, grabbed a knife, and stabbed Steven in the chest and leg.
He then fled, leaving their friend to dial 999. Paramedics arrived quickly, but Steven was declared dead at the scene. The post-mortem confirmed death from stab wounds to the chest and knee.
Fleeing Killer Turns Himself In After Nearly Two Weeks on the Run
Ferrier dumped the murder weapon in a bin nearby, and tried to cover his tracks by throwing away his clothes and phone. He stayed on the run for 12 days before finally surrendering to police. During questioning, he claimed self-defence, saying he feared Steven was about to attack him.
Heartbreaking Words from Victim’s Family
“Steven was a son, a brother, an uncle and friend to so many, including the person who took his life,” said Steven’s sister, Carly.
“When I was told of his death I screamed endlessly. Then came the worst moment – calling our mum to tell her her youngest son had been murdered. I could feel her heart breaking over the phone.
“We know his last moments were full of fear, panic, and pain. He died alone. There is no closure. We will carry this suffering forever.”
Investigator Speaks Out
Detective Inspector Frank Copley, who led the probe, said: “This is a tragic incident, leaving a family utterly bereft. Our thoughts remain with them. Their suffering was prolonged by sitting through the trial and hearing the details. They say they will never heal, but can find some comfort in justice being served.”
