British Girl Saved from Pool 50 Minutes After Lifeguard Shift Ended in Tenerife
A six-year-old British girl was pulled from a hotel pool in Tenerife nearly an hour after the lifeguard had finished their shift, sparking a police probe into the shocking neglect.
Trapped in Danger at Granada Park Aparthotel
The drama unfolded on May 9 at around 6:50 pm local time at the Granada Park Aparthotel in Los Cristianos, on Tenerife’s southwest coast. Reports say the lifeguard had already left when the girl went underwater.
Guests and Staff Spring into Action
Desperate guests and hotel staff rushed to the rescue, performing mouth-to-mouth as emergency services were called. Police, including motorcyclists and patrol units, arrived shortly after and found the terrified girl conscious but shaken.
Fighting for Breath: Girl Diagnosed with Aspiration Pneumonia
The youngster was quickly whisked to a local medical centre where she was diagnosed with aspiration pneumonia caused by inhalation of water. Though stabilised, she was transferred to a specialist paediatric emergency unit at a university hospital for further care.
Investigation Launched Over Pool Safety and Parental Supervision
Local police have launched an urgent investigation to establish where the girl’s parents were and why the pool was left unsupervised. Authorities aim to get to the bottom of this near-tragedy and prevent future accidents.
Police statement: “We are working to determine how this happened and ensure that safety protocols are rigorously enforced going forward.”
The girl’s condition remains undisclosed as the inquiry continues. This incident raises serious questions about hotel pool safety in popular tourist spots.
