Absolutely Fabulous Cast Reunite for First Time Since 2016
Fans of the legendary British sitcom Absolutely Fabulous are buzzing as the iconic cast reunites for a one-off special. Jennifer Saunders, Dame Joanna Lumley, Julia Sawalha, and Jane Horrocks come together in Absolutely Fabulous: Inside Out to look back at their hilarious journey since the 90s hit first aired.
Tribute to June Whitfield and Show Highlights
The special pays heartfelt tribute to June Whitfield, who played the adored character Mother and sadly passed away in 2018 aged 93. Often called Ab Fab by fans, the show premiered in 1992 and ran until 2003, following the outrageous antics of PR boss Edina Monsoon (Saunders) and her party-loving best mate Patsy (Lumley). Their wild London lifestyle often led to chaotic scrapes, smoothed over by sensible daughter Saffy (Sawalha) and the daft personal assistant Bubble (Horrocks).
More than Just Nostalgia: A Comedy Legacy
The show enjoyed a brief comeback with a three-episode run from 2011 to 2012 to celebrate its 20th anniversary, followed by a movie in 2016. Creator and star Jennifer Saunders is thrilled about the special, admitting,
“I loved making Ab Fab but I can’t remember a great deal, so much of this retrospective is a revelation to me.”
Dame Joanna Lumley added,
“It was a fabulous wander down memory lane by actresses who only have the faintest grip on reality. Really thrilling, and I hope vastly entertaining. I loved every second.”
Behind the Scenes and What’s Next
Kirsty Hanson, who commissioned the documentary for Gold, praised the show’s groundbreaking role in female-led comedy.
“The show helped break the mould for female-led comedy and fans are in for a real treat,”
she said.
The documentary from Expectation will include rare behind-the-scenes secrets, interviews with costume designers, famous fans, and never-before-seen clips. Absolutely Fabulous: Inside Out is set to air on Gold later this year – not to be missed by any Ab Fab fan!
