The UK is bracing for a wild week as Storm Ciarán barrels in, sparking multiple Severe Weather Warnings across the country.

Heavy Rain Hits Northern Ireland First

Before the storm, eastern Northern Ireland faces a drenching. An Amber Severe Weather Warning is in place, with up to 100mm of rain expected from Monday night into Tuesday morning. Prepare for flooded streets and soaked commutes.

Storm Ciarán Strikes the South

Storm Ciarán, a fierce low-pressure system, sweeps into southwest UK on Wednesday evening. Southern England and Wales will bear the brunt, battered by gale-force winds and heavy downpours lasting through Thursday.

“Storm Ciarán will bring very strong winds along the south coast of England and Wales, with gusts of 70 to 80mph possible, even 90mph in exposed locations,” warned Met Office Deputy Chief Meteorologist Steven Keates. “Further inland, gusts could hit 50 to 60mph.”

“Heavy rain will lash southern and western areas, with 20-25mm widely and up to 60mm on hills. With ground already saturated, flooding risks go up.”

Flood Threat Looms Large

Kate Marks, Flood Duty Manager at the Environment Agency, says serious flooding could follow. “Significant surface water flooding is possible, though not expected in the South East today,” she said. “But from Wednesday to Friday, Storm Ciarán’s rain could lead to major flooding.”

She urged caution: “Stay away from swollen rivers and never drive through flood water — just 30cm of moving water can sweep your car away.”

Keep an eye on official Met Office warnings as the weather worsens. This storm means serious business — stay safe, folks!
