Teen Cyclist Hurt in Shocking Brockley Crash
A teenage cyclist was rushed to hospital after a serious smash with a car on Adelaide Avenue, Brockley, on Thursday afternoon (April 17).
The collision happened just before 1pm at the junction of Montague Avenue and Chalsey Road. Emergency services swooped on the scene following reports of the crash.
Emergency Response at Scene
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said: “At 13:02hrs on Thursday, 17 April, police were called to Adelaide Avenue, Brockley, following reports of a collision between a cyclist and a car. Officers attended and helped with road closures while the London Ambulance Service treated the cyclist, who was then taken to hospital. We await an update on their condition. Enquiries are ongoing.”
Ambulance Service Statement
The London Ambulance Service added: “We were called at 12.56pm to reports of a road traffic collision at the junction of Montague Avenue and Chalsey Road. We sent ambulance crews, an incident response officer, and an advanced paramedic. A teenager was treated at the scene before being taken to a major trauma centre in London.”
Road Closures Cause Chaos
Adelaide Avenue was shut both ways between Brockley Road and St Cyprian’s Path for hours, sparking major traffic delays.
- P4 buses rerouted via Brockley Road, Wickham Road, Lewisham Way, and Loampit Hill.
- 122 buses diverted along Stanstead Road, Catford Road, and Lewisham High Street.
The road finally reopened by early evening, with all incident work completed at 6:21pm.
Residents and drivers were thanked for their patience during the disruption.
