Blaze Breaks Out in London High-Rise: Firefighters Battle Fierce Flames
A massive fire erupted this morning on the seventh floor of a high-rise tower on Baffin Way, sparking a major emergency response from the London Fire Brigade (LFB), London Ambulance Service, and the Hazardous Area Response Team (HART).
55 Firefighters Scramble to Contain Inferno
Around 55 firefighters rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze. Thanks to their swift and expert efforts, the fire was successfully contained to just one floor, preventing what could have been a devastating spread.
Safety Measures and Evacuations Underway
- Road closures and a large safety cordon have been set up around the affected area.
- Nearby residents have been evacuated as a precautionary measure.
- Paramedics are on site, though there are no confirmed reports on injuries yet.
LFB Spokesman Details Fire, Urges Caution
A London Fire Brigade spokesman said: “Ten fire engines and around 70 firefighters are fighting a flat fire in a high-rise building on Biscyane Avenue in Blackwall. Half of a flat and the balcony on the 25th floor of the 45-storey block are alight.”
The fire is generating a thick plume of smoke. Residents nearby have been advised to keep windows and doors closed and to avoid Biscayne Avenue if possible. The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers have already fielded more than 100 emergency calls since the fire was reported at 13:28.
Fire crews from Millwall, Plaistow, Shadwell, and other stations remain on the scene. The cause of the blaze is currently unknown, with investigations ongoing.
