West Sussex Fire Boss Takes on Global Role
West Sussex Fire and Rescue Service’s Chief Fire Officer, Sabrina Cohen-Hatton, has landed a top international gig. She’s been named the National Fire Chief’s Council (NFCC) International Lead — all while keeping her day job heading up West Sussex’s fire service.
Spreading Fire Safety Know-How Worldwide
Sabrina’s new role means she’ll team up with fire services worldwide, swapping top tips and boosting firefighter safety. The goal? Making sure fire crews benefit from shared wisdom and cutting-edge advances from across the globe.
Sabrina Speaks Out
“I am delighted to have been appointed as the NFCC International Lead and I am looking forward to embarking on this new journey and being able to share international best practices with colleagues around the world, as well as here in West Sussex.”
“Over the last decade I have researched decision-making psychology to help keep firefighters—and the public—safer. Sharing this knowledge internationally has proven invaluable, and this new role lifts our learning to a whole new level.”
“It’s crucial to learn from others’ experiences to improve safety, and I’m passionate about driving that forward.”
Supporting Global Fire Aid Efforts
The new role will also coordinate aid from UK fire services to international crises. Case in point: the ongoing humanitarian effort in Ukraine. Earlier this year, the NFCC, FIRE AID, and Fire Industry Association launched a massive UK response.
- WSFRS sent 12 firefighters in the biggest UK service convoy.
- They delivered 22 vehicles, including four fire engines and over 5,000 vital pieces of equipment.
Since then, two more convoys have headed to Ukraine. Sabrina’s leadership as NFCC International Lead will be key in pushing these lifesaving projects forward.
