Tragic Loss of Bright Young Scientist Ling Shakes Oxford
From Malaysia to Oxford: Ling’s Inspirational Journey
Ling was born in Malaysia in 1986 and moved to London in 1991 with her family. After growing up in Putney, she headed to Oxford in 2005 to study Biochemistry. She stayed on to complete a PhD in Clinical Pharmacology and made her mark not only academically but also on the rugby pitch, representing Oxford in both rugby union and rugby league.
Promising Scientist Tackles Covid-19 and Cancer
Ling worked as a research scientist at Oxford University after finishing her PhD in 2013. Her cutting-edge research focused on immune responses to Covid-19 and cancer. She was on track to take a leading role in establishing a new institute within the university. Colleagues describe her as selfless, caring, and utterly dedicated.
Heartbreaking Loss Leaves Family and Friends Devastated
Ling was known for her bright, friendly nature and optimistic outlook, bringing joy to all who knew her. She leaves behind two young children, aged three and five, and her husband of eight years, James. Her family and friends in Oxford, Malaysia, Canada, and beyond are mourning the loss of a devoted mother and beloved wife.
James, Ling’s husband, said: “Ling was the light of our family and we are devastated to lose her so young when she had so many dreams for herself and her children that she was beginning to realise. I am lost without her warm presence, but she will live on through the love that she has given to us and to so many others. Her whole family loved and loves her desperately, and we will always keep her in our hearts.”
