Tragedy on A40: Man Dies in Solo Car Crash Between Abergavenny and Raglan

Disaster struck on the A40 eastbound on Monday afternoon when a silver Mercedes E220 estate crashed near Raglan. Emergency services raced to the scene around 2pm, but sadly, the driver was pronounced dead.

Victim Named: Mathew Rawlings

The victim has been identified as 49-year-old Mathew Rawlings from Box, Wiltshire. Paramedics confirmed he died at the scene. Authorities have informed his next of kin, who are being supported by specialist officers.

“Mat was a loving husband and doting father to two beautiful children. He was truly loved and will be sorely missed. We’re thankful for the messages of support but ask to be left alone to grieve in private,” the family said in a statement.

Officers are appealing to anyone who saw the crash or has dashcam footage from the A40 between 1.45pm and 2.15pm, specifically the stretch from Abergavenny to Raglan. Any information could be crucial in piecing together what happened.
