Ferrero Kinder Products Pulled in UK Salmonella Scare
A salmonella outbreak linked to certain Ferrero chocolate products has sparked a major product recall across the UK. Young children have been among those affected, raising fresh concerns for parents nationwide.
Health Authorities Join Forces to Investigate
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Public Health Scotland, Public Health Wales, and Northern Ireland’s Public Health Agency launched a joint probe. Their investigations point to a specific Ferrero product line made in one factory as the likely source of the salmonella cases.
Ferrero has swiftly responded by recalling the suspected products immediately while the investigations continue. Notably, other Kinder treats are currently not considered at risk.
Parents Warn: Don’t Feed These Products to Kids
Parents are urged to check their cupboards urgently. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) advises against feeding any products listed in the recall alert to children or anyone else:
- Salmonella symptoms include diarrhoea, stomach cramps, nausea, vomiting, and fever.
- While symptoms often clear up in a few days, severe cases can lead to hospitalisation—in particular among young children and those with weak immune systems.
Tina Potter, FSA Head of Incidents: “We welcome the precautionary action by Ferrero. It’s crucial consumers avoid the recalled products to stay safe. These treats are especially popular with young children, so parents should check and act swiftly.”
Experts Stress Hygiene and Caution
Dr Lesley Larkin, UKHSA Surveillance Lead: “We appreciate Ferrero’s cooperation in this recall amid the ongoing outbreak. We’re working closely with public health bodies across the UK and internationally to minimise risk. Anyone with symptoms should contact their GP or NHS 111 immediately. Good hygiene—like thorough hand washing—is key to stopping further spread.”
Stay vigilant and check the full recall list on the FSA website. Don’t take chances with your family’s health—if in doubt, bin it!
