Hairdressers Forced to Stay Shut Until at Least April 12! Britons craving a fresh cut will have to wait another seven weeks before barbers and salons can swing open their doors.
Boris Lays Out Roadmap, But Haircuts Still on Hold
Prime Minister Boris Johnson unveiled his much-anticipated lockdown exit plan today (Monday). While some easing kicks in from March 8—including schools reopening—many day-to-day activities remain off-limits.
Notably, hairdressers and barbershops won’t reopen until April 12 at the earliest, with just one week’s notice given before they can welcome clients back. Beauty salons and other non-essential shops share the same reopening date.
Sunshine, Self-Catering Holidays and Garden Pints Allowed
From April 12, families will be able to enjoy self-catering holidays. Pubs will finally pour pints again—but only in beer gardens. It’s a long-awaited glimmer of normality, but still no chop for many.
Personal Care Industry Left High and Dry
The lockdown has battered personal care businesses hard. Hairdressers, beauty salons, and tanning booths have been shut for most of 2020 and all of 2021 so far, struggling to stay afloat.
Summer Hopes and Ongoing Restrictions
There’s hope life will mostly bounce back by June 21. As Boris promised, you won’t have to battle to tame your unruly mop forever.
However, social distancing and mask-wearing rules are here for the long haul. No sign yet on when they’ll be scrapped, meaning 2021 might still be a masked-up year.
