Lockdown Robbed Teens of Key Moments – Now They Can Fight Back with Creativity
Young people across the UK missed out on major milestones during lockdown. Exams, last days at school, and the much-anticipated end-of-year prom were all cancelled. Their routines, hobbies, and face-to-face time with friends vanished overnight. These losses hit hard, affecting their mental health and personal growth.
Lockdown Life Project Gives UK Teens a Voice
Now, Chester-based charity 2engage has launched the Lockdown Life project. It offers 10- to 18-year-olds a creative outlet to express how lockdown has affected them.
- Submit videos, voice recordings, photos or images
- Share poems, spoken word, diary entries, or art
- Send in scripts, musical compositions, dance performances, or sketches
Ed Morris, co-founder of 2engage, said: “The project helps young people make sense of the world right now through creativity. We want to build digital communities with real connection—more meaningful than TikTok.”
How It Works – And Why It Matters
The project officially launched on May 7, giving young people three weeks to submit entries. They can upload via the 2engage website or social media platforms like Facebook and TikTok. For under-14s, parental consent is required.
2engage will compile submissions into creative short videos and share them with participants. These will be perfect to showcase at schools, colleges, or on social media.
Ed added: “The finished videos will remind communities of the emotional impact of the pandemic and show how young people have adapted. Plus, for every entry, £1 will be donated to Childline to support vulnerable youngsters.
Helping Young People Bounce Back After Lockdown
Project outcomes will be shared with schools and higher education institutions across the UK. The goal? To equip teachers and safeguarding teams with insight into what young people have endured. This will help them better manage fears, expectations, and emotions as life after Covid-19 unfolds.
