Major M25 Crash Closes Key Surrey Stretch
The M25 is shut in both directions between junction 5 (Chevening Interchange) and junction 6 (Godstone Interchange) following a serious collision. The closure affects the busy Surrey stretch connecting the A21, M26, and A22.
Emergency Services Swarm Scene
Surrey and Kent Police, South East Ambulance paramedics, Surrey Fire & Rescue crews, and Highways England Traffic Officers are all at the scene. A collision investigation is underway, and the road is expected to stay closed for some time.
Motorists trapped in the closure are advised to stay with their vehicles. Traffic officers will work hard to clear the backlog as quickly as possible.
Complicated Diversions in Place
Clockwise diversion: At junction 5, motorists must leave the M25, head south on the A21, loop onto the A25 westbound through Sundridge, Brasted, Westerham, Limpsfield, and Oxted. Then take the third exit at the A22 roundabout near Godstone, head north on the A22, and rejoin the M25 clockwise at junction 6. Look out for hollow triangle signs marking this route.
Anti-clockwise diversion: Exit the M25 at junction 6, follow the A22 southbound towards East Grinstead. At the A25 roundabout, take the first exit through Oxted, Limpsfield, Westerham, Brasted, and Sundridge. Then turn left at the traffic lights onto the A21 northbound to reconnect with the M25 anti-clockwise. This route is signed with hollow square markers.
Additional Route Advice & Delays
- Traffic on the M20 Londonbound aiming for M26 westbound or M25 clockwise should stay on the M20 to junction 1 (Swanley Interchange), then join the M25 clockwise to junction 5 and follow the clockwise diversion.
- Drivers on the M25 anti-clockwise heading for the M26 eastbound or M20 coastbound must use the anti-clockwise diversion, continue to junction 3, then join the M20 coastbound.
Drivers planning to use the M25 in Surrey must expect heavy delays and add plenty of extra time. If you can, avoid the area or delay your journey until the road reopens.
Long jams are also expected along the A22 and A25 diversion routes in both directions.
