COVID R Number Dips Below One, Say Government Scientists
The Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (SAGE), the key government panel guiding pandemic action, has confirmed the UK’s COVID reproduction number – or R number – is now creeping below one.
What Is the R Number?
The R number shows how many people, on average, one infected person will pass the virus on to. If it stays below one, it means the outbreak is shrinking.
Sign of Hope for the UK?
This dip in the R number hints the spread of COVID could be slowing, raising cautious optimism about the country’s fight against the virus.
