Blaze Rips Through Putney Home After Faulty Fridge Sparks Fire
Massive Fire Destroys Second Floor
Four fire engines and around 25 firefighters raced to a blazing house on Schubert Road, Putney, Friday night. The inferno gutted the entire second floor of a mid-terraced home and tore through half of the third floor.
One Woman Hospitalised with Smoke Inhalation
A woman managed to escape before the fire brigade arrived but was rushed to hospital by London Ambulance Service after suffering from smoke inhalation.
Fridge Blamed for Starting the Blaze
The London Fire Brigade believe the fire started accidentally, with a fridge the likely culprit.
“If your white goods start making a strange noise, don’t ignore it,” warned a London Fire Brigade spokesperson. “Always unplug the appliance and contact the manufacturer or a qualified repair technician. Most fires involving white goods aren’t caused by user error, so be sure to register your appliances to be informed of any product faults.”
Fast Response from Fire Crews
The Brigade was called at 9:47pm and had the fire under control by 11:05pm. Firefighters from Wandsworth, Battersea, and Tooting stations joined the operation to tackle the blaze.
