Black Smoke Erupts from Former Gaiety Amusement Arcade
Fire crews scrambled to the seafront as thick black smoke poured from the former Gaiety Amusement arcade. The blaze sent noxious fumes inland, carried by a strong sea breeze.
Blaze Breaks Out Just Before 6pm
The fire ignited shortly before 18:00, mere minutes before someone was due to enter the building. Quick response came from two fire engines from Ventnor and Shanklin.
Firefighters Battle to Contain the Flames
Crews are using powerful jets to douse the fire. More reinforcements, including the Aerial Ladder Platform, are speeding to the scene to help tackle the blaze.
