Facebook and Instagram Crash Hits Thousands Across UK
Thousands of Brits were left frustrated on Monday evening as Facebook and Instagram both suffered major outages. Problems kicked off just after 6pm on October 14, leaving users struggling to log in or access their favourite social apps.
Widespread Issues Hit Major Cities
According to Down Detector, over 2,900 Facebook users and 2,000 Instagram users reported issues. On Facebook, 55% couldn’t access the site at all, 27% had app glitches, and 18% faced sign-in troubles. The blackout hit hotspots including London, Manchester, and Glasgow.
Users Flock to Twitter to Complain
Social media fans took to X – formerly Twitter – to vent their anger and confusion. One user said, “Thought for a sec that I lost my 13yo Facebook account.” Another questioned, “Is Facebook down? Can’t log in #facebooklogin #facebookdown.”
Instagram users were equally annoyed. One tweeted, “Instagram is experiencing technical issues, multiple reports of malfunctions. Stay tuned! #InstagramDown.” Another joked, “Instagram going down when I was trying to stalk people… now I have to do my homework, I guess.”
No Word Yet From Facebook or Instagram
So far, neither Facebook nor Instagram has explained what’s causing the blackout or when normal service will resume. Social media users are advised to keep an eye out for updates as the situation unfolds.
