Tragedy on A40: Four Family Members Killed in Horror Crash Near Oxford
Thames Valley Police remain at the scene of a devastating smash on the A40 close to Oxford that claimed the lives of three children and one adult from the same Oxfordshire family.
Fatal Crash Involving Car and HGV
Emergency services were called to the scene just before 10pm on 12 October following a collision between a silver Subaru people carrier and a white heavy goods vehicle near the railway overbridge west of Oxford.
Multiple 999 calls flooded in from shocked witnesses. Tragically, a 29-year-old woman and three children – a four-year-old girl, an eight-year-old girl, and a six-year-old boy – were pronounced dead at the scene.
Survivors in Critical Condition
Two others inside the Subaru, a 30-year-old man and an 18-month-old toddler, were rushed to John Radcliffe Hospital and remain in critical condition.
The HGV driver, a 56-year-old man, suffered minor injuries.
Police Appeal for Witnesses and Dashcam Footage
Senior Investigating Officer Sgt Dominic Mahon said: “We are in the very early stages of a tragic investigation into this horrific collision that has claimed four lives from the same family.
“If you were driving in the area and witnessed the crash, please contact Thames Valley Police on 101 quoting reference 43200321914. If you have dashcam footage of the vehicles involved, please do not share it publicly but pass it directly to the police.”

Road Closure and Ongoing Investigation
The A40 remains closed both ways for the foreseeable future as police carry out their on-site inquiries. Officers praised the emergency crews for their swift response to a “deeply upsetting scene.”
This tragic collision has left an Oxfordshire family mourning four precious lives in what has been described as an “absolute tragedy.”
