Chaos at Lynnbottom Recycling Centre: Council Urges Patience and Smart Tips
Visitors to the Lynnbottom Household Waste and Recycling Centre (HWRC) have been hitting peak frustration lately. The council urges tipplers to avoid the morning rush and visit between 3pm and 6pm for a smoother, quicker drop-off.
Don’t Queue Before 10am Opening
The centre only opens at 10am, so queuing on the carriageway beforehand is a no-go. This blocks traffic and causes delays all along the road. Councillor Michael Murwill, cabinet member for waste management, admits: “We truly appreciate the frustration as the half-term holidays coincide with the busy spring clean and gardening season – historically some of the busiest weeks for recycling centres.”
Roadworks Add to Traffic Jams
On top of it all, essential roadworks across the island are forcing traffic through central routes like Arreton, Downend, and Briddlesford, cranking up congestion. Murwill appeals for patience and consideration from drivers navigating the snarls.
Think Twice Before You Throw
- Some items can be reused or donated to a 1 Shop, reducing waste.
- The council offers a free reuse collection for white goods and furniture in good condition.
- For bulky items that can’t be reused, a paid collection service is available.
- Garden waste can be composted at home or collected fortnightly for just £60 a year – saving you time and more tip runs.
- Check roadworks.org before you set off to avoid traffic headaches.
Lynnbottom HWRC is open daily, 10am to 6pm. Plan your visit wisely and keep your waste disposal hassle-free.
