Chaos at QEII Bridge as Two Protesters Climb Up High
Essex Police are scrambling at the scene after two people scaled the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge at the Dartford Crossing just before 3:50am this morning (Monday 17 October). The startling stunt has forced a full closure of the bridge, sparking major gridlock.
Mile-Long Tailbacks and Hour-Long Delays
Traffic is crawling with three miles of congestion piling up. Drivers face delays of at least 60 minutes as National Highway Traffic Officers help manage the chaos. The bridge remains shut while officers work urgently to bring the situation under control.
Bridge Closure to Last – Diversions in Place
The suspects remain at height on the bridge, complicating rescue efforts. Police warned the closure could go on for some time due to the tricky and dangerous nature of safely bringing the climbers down.
A diversion route through the tunnel is now in effect, but motorists are advised to plan ahead, allow extra journey time, or delay travel if possible.
“We received a report shortly before 3.50am today that two people had climbed onto the bridge and are currently at height. The bridge has been closed while we resolve the incident which we will do as quickly and as safely for all involved,” Essex Police said.
