Rail Safety Fears Spark Call for Urgent Probe Amid Strike Chaos
Trains Sent the Wrong Way
Rail union TSSA has raised alarm after reports that trains were routed incorrectly during yesterday’s strike. Some trains were reportedly sent onto dangerous tracks, risking serious accidents. The bungling didn’t stop there – safety warning signals weren’t activated, and some lines were blocked because signal boxes were left closed.
Stand-In Staff Risk Disaster at Red Signals
Worryingly, the union also claims stand-in staff tried to dispatch trains despite red signals being displayed. TSSA General Secretary Manuel Cortes warned: “Any one of these safety violations could have resulted in a serious accident, putting both passengers and rail workers at risk.”
Union Demands Immediate Safety Investigation
TSSA is calling for an urgent probe by the safety inspectorate. They want assured safe working conditions before tomorrow’s planned industrial action. Cortes stressed:
“The priority must be safety. Corners should never be cut, even during lawful industrial action.”
“Inexperienced or untrained personnel must not be put in safety-critical roles like signalling, control, or train dispatch.”
“We urge our members not to attempt work they feel is unsafe.”
Union Slams Government Over Rail Chaos
Manuel Cortes blasted the government for ignoring calls to resolve the dispute, saying unsafe practices only put staff and passengers in peril. The union insists swift talks are the only way to end disruption and keep rail travel safe.
