Firefighters Battle Blaze After Bonfire Sparks Grassland Inferno Near Birchington

The Kent Fire and Rescue Service raced to a field fire near St Nicholas At Wade in Birchington. Two fire engines and an all-terrain vehicle tackled flames ripping through grassland and scrub.

Bonfire Sparks Grass and Scrub Blaze

Firefighters quickly used flexi-packs and beaters to douse the fire. The blaze was sparked accidentally after flames from a nearby bonfire spread into dry vegetation.

Fire Crews Issue Urgent Safety Warning

Following the incident, crews urged the public to stay vigilant this fire season. They warned:

  • Keep bonfires small and manageable
  • Always supervise them
  • Keep fires far from greenery and buildings
  • Avoid lighting fires during hot or windy weather

“If you spot a grass fire, get to safety and dial 999 immediately,” fire crews advised.
