UK Firefighters Rally to Deliver Lifesaving Gear to Ukraine
Watch Manager Daryll Pynigar and Crew Manager Spencer Harrison are on a crucial mission. Alongside firefighters from across the UK, they’re transporting vital equipment, protective clothing, and medical supplies to Poland — next stop: Ukraine’s frontline.
Massive Kit Shipment Backed by Fire Brigades UK-Wide
The convoy, organised by charity Fire-Aid and the National Fire Chiefs Council, is carrying over 5,000 donated items. These include twenty fire engines, thermal imaging cameras, generators, lighting, rescue gear, and thousands of PPE suits.
Every fire service nationwide has chipped in, making this a true team effort. More than 60 UK firefighters joined the convoy as it departed Kent on Saturday, 19 March.
Firefighters Speak Out: ‘One Community, One Mission’
Area Manager Jason Avery said: “When we heard about the Fire-Aid and NFCC convoy to Ukraine, we knew we had to step up. Our role is to save lives, and firefighters on the frontline desperately need support. It’s inspiring to see fire and rescue teams from across the UK unite for this cause.”
Daryll Pynigar, Bishop’s Waltham firefighter, added: “We’ve all been moved by what’s happening in Ukraine. Knowing what their firefighters face daily, we had to help. The fire service is one community, no matter where you are in the world.”
Spencer Harrison from Eastleigh said: “Our job is to help people. This convoy will deliver vital aid to those who need it most, and we hope it makes a real difference.”
Organised Effort Supported by Government and Public Donations
Daryll and Spencer are part of the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service’s Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) team and UK International Search and Rescue (UKISAR). Five HIWFRS members helped pack and sort supplies at the convoy base in Kent.
This massive humanitarian push is funded by the Home Office, Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office, the FIA Foundation, and public donations via JustGiving.
UK firefighters are proving their mettle on home soil and abroad – delivering hope and life-saving kit to those battling the crisis in Ukraine.
