£2M Boost for Southampton Children's Emergency Department
Chancellor George Osborne today pledged £2 million towards a brand-new £4.8 million children’s emergency and trauma department at Southampton Children’s Hospital. This vital investment will serve young patients across the South of England.
Delighted Hospital Boss Hails Funding Win
Fiona Dalton, chief executive of University Hospital Southampton NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are absolutely delighted the chancellor has agreed to invest £2 million towards a new children’s emergency and trauma department.”
She added: “Our staff already provide excellent clinical care daily. But to keep up with growing demand, we must improve and expand our facilities.”
Campaigners and MPs Help Secure Cash
Thanks to £800,000 already invested by the trust and the Chancellor’s cash injection, the project can now move ahead. Dalton also praised passionate campaigners behind the effort.
“A special thank you to the Murray Parish Trust, Winchester MP Steve Brine, his parliamentary colleagues and our local media,” said Dalton. “Most importantly, thanks to our patients, families, staff and the public for their amazing teamwork.”
Fundraising Drive Underway
With government funding secured, the hospital now plans a fundraising campaign to cover the remaining costs. The new department promises to drastically improve emergency care for children across the region.
