Two Paragliders Die in Mid-Air Smash Over Krusevo

Tragedy struck in Krusevo as two paragliders collided mid-air, killing both pilots. Among the victims was Innes Powell, a respected 54-year-old pilot known for training on the Isle of Wight.

Fatal Crash at British Open in Macedonia

The deadly incident happened during the British Open Paragliding Competition in Krusevo, Macedonia. Powell, 54, crashed into 56-year-old Igor Volov. Volov died instantly at the scene, while Powell was rushed to hospital but sadly passed away shortly after.

Paragliding Community in Mourning

The Isle of Wight Hang Gliding and Paragliding Club expressed deep sorrow over the loss. In a statement, they said:

“It is with regret that the IOWHGPC has been informed of a recent incident at the British Paragliding Competition in Krusevo, Macedonia where tragically Innes Powell was killed. The Members and Committee send their sincere and deep condolences to Sarah, Rosie, and his family. Our thoughts are with them all at this dreadful time.”

Both men were well-known in the paragliding community, making this a grim day for the sport.
