UK and Bangladesh Boost £4.7bn Trade Ties

The UK is set on a trade bonanza with Bangladesh, aiming to spark jobs and economic growth for both nations. Last year, trade between the two hit a record £4.7 billion, shattering previous records.

Trade Minister’s Mission: Breaking Barriers and Building Bridges

Minister Huddleston, visiting Bangladesh, hailed the booming relationship and vowed to push even harder for closer trade and investment links. He said, “We’re committed to tackling market access issues with Bangladesh to unlock prosperity on both sides.”

Key Meetings to Power Up Aviation and Trade

  • Huddleston will meet Salman F Rahman MP, adviser to the Prime Minister, to discuss the Aviation Trade and Investment Partnership signed in May 2023. The deal aims to turbocharge Bangladesh’s aviation sector and create new jobs in both countries.
  • He will also sit down with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi MP to talk about the UK’s new Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS). The DCTS allows Bangladesh to use components from a wider range of countries while enjoying zero tariffs in the UK, making exports easier and cheaper.
  • The Minister will meet State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism Mahbub Ali MP to discuss UK support for Bangladesh’s ambitions to become a top aviation hub in South Asia.

Strengthening Ties for Shared Prosperity

Minister Huddleston’s visit underlines the UK’s drive to deepen economic links, helping both nations grow and prosper through increased trade and cooperation.
