A woman has been rushed to a major trauma centre after being hit by a bus on Vauxhall Bridge Road in south London this morning. The crash sparked a massive emergency response and caused chaos on the busy road.
Air Ambulance Scrambles to Scene
The collision happened around 9:20am on Saturday, March 22, near Vauxhall Bridge. Emergency teams including London Ambulance Service’s advanced paramedics, ambulance crews, a clinician in a rapid response car, and London’s Air Ambulance swarmed the scene.
Police sealed off part of the bridge and shut the road in both directions as medics rushed to aid the injured woman.
“We were called at 9.20am to reports of a road traffic collision on Vauxhall Bridge Road. We treated a woman at the scene before taking her to a London major trauma centre,” said a London Ambulance Service spokesperson.
Injuries Not Life-Threatening
The Metropolitan Police confirmed the incident involved a pedestrian and a bus. Thankfully, the woman’s injuries are serious but non-life-threatening and not expected to cause permanent harm.
“The bridge was closed for recovery and is now reopened. Investigations into the collision are ongoing,” a police spokesperson revealed.
Major Traffic Disruption Hits London
Transport for London (TfL) warned of heavy delays across the area following the crash. Several bus routes, including the 2, 36, 878, and 88, faced diversions or early terminations as emergency crews worked swiftly.
The bridge has now reopened, and traffic is slowly returning to normal, though drivers are urged to expect some lingering delays.
