An online mechanic marketplace expert sounded the alarm about the scale of the problem. “These figures are an important reminder to keep your documents up to date,” they stated. “Many drivers don’t realise their licences have expired, but the consequences can be severe.”

After passing your practical driving test, you receive a photocard licence valid for ten years. Renewal is easy and affordable:
- Online: £14, processed within five days
- Postal: £17
- At the Post Office: £21.50
The DVLA stresses using the quick online service to avoid penalties. If you stop driving, be sure to notify the DVLA and return your licence instead of keeping it as just photo ID.
