New Flood Warning Service Rolled Out Across Yorkshire
The Environment Agency has launched a fresh flood warning service this week covering eight areas in Yorkshire. The service will alert residents to any imminent flooding risks, helping them brace for impact.
2,557 Properties Now Protected
The new warnings cover 2,557 properties. Residents will get a heads-up when flooding is forecast and a follow-up alert if flooding is likely to cause problems. The service is free to join, with notifications sent via phone calls or texts.
The warnings come in three tiers, including a Severe Flood Warning which signals immediate danger and urges residents to follow emergency services’ advice without delay.
Yorkshire Joins Nationwide Boost in Flood Alerts
This update is part of a nationwide push that now makes 110,000 more homes and businesses eligible for flood alerts. Many previously tricky-to-reach rural and remote areas can now receive warnings thanks to new tech from the Environment Agency.
Graham Lindsey, flood resilience team leader, said:
“We know the devastating impact that flooding can have, which is why protecting people and communities is our top priority.
These warnings help people prepare and be more resilient when flooding strikes. We encourage everyone in these new zones to sign up free for peace of mind and safety.”
