Londoner Edward Pettifer among 14 killed in New Orleans terror attack
Met Police Back Family of New Year’s Day Victim
Metropolitan Police specialists are supporting the family of Edward Pettifer, the 31-year-old Londoner murdered in the New Orleans New Year’s Day terror attack. Pettifer, from Chelsea, was one of 14 victims when a truck, reportedly driven by an Islamic State-inspired attacker, ploughed into crowds celebrating on Bourbon Street.
Family Describes Edward as ‘Wonderful Son and Friend’
The grieving family released a heartfelt statement:
“The entire family are devastated at the tragic news of Ed‘s death in New Orleans. He was a wonderful son, brother, grandson, nephew, and a friend to so many.
“We will all miss him terribly. Our thoughts are with the other families who have lost their loved ones due to this terrible attack. We request privacy to grieve as a family. Thank you.”
International Terror Probe Underway
The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command is working with international and government partners to assist with repatriation and the coronial process. The FBI has branded the attack “premeditated,” revealing the suspect planned the deadly assault weeks earlier.
The UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office confirmed it is liaising with local authorities and offering full support to Pettifer’s family.
