Chaos at Morgan State Homecoming: Five Hurt in Campus Shooting

A night of celebration at Morgan State University turned into panic after a shooting at the homecoming event left five people injured. All suffered non-life-threatening wounds, but the incident sparked a tense four-hour lockdown and forced the cancellation of Wednesday’s classes.

Students in Shock After Shooting Near Arts Centre

The shooting happened Tuesday evening close to the Murphy Fine Arts Center, just after the coronation of Mister and Miss Morgan State. Police Commissioner Richard Worley told reporters the victims, aged 18 to 22, included four males and one female. Four out of five have ties to the university.

Lockdown Chaos and Ongoing Investigation

  • Students hunkered down as police searched buildings room-by-room.
  • Authorities urged everyone to steer clear of the Fine Arts Center and Thurgood Marshall Hall.
  • The lockdown was lifted after SWAT confirmed no suspect inside a key building around 12:30am.
  • A police blockade sealed off the campus south entrance while a helicopter patrolled overhead.

The number of shooters remains unclear, and no suspects have been named or arrested. The FBI is assisting local police with the probe.

Campus on High Alert

Commissioner Worley highlighted the “abundance of caution” behind the class cancellation, as the university community reels from the shock. Orange evidence markers littered the scene, underscoring the seriousness of the attack at what was supposed to be a night of joy.
