Filipino Worker Dies After Fall at Qatar World Cup Site
Tragedy struck at the Qatar World Cup as John Njau Kibue, a Filipino worker, died following a fall last Saturday. Medical teams rushed him to hospital, but he passed away on Tuesday after three days in intensive care, the World Cup organisers confirmed.
Supreme Committee Launches Probe
The Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), responsible for the event’s organisation, expressed their sorrow in a statement released Wednesday. They confirmed Mr Kibue’s next of kin have been informed and sent condolences to his colleagues and friends.
“We regret to announce that, despite the efforts of the medical team, he sadly passed away in hospital on Tuesday 13 December, after being in the intensive care unit for three days.”
The SC promised an urgent investigation into the circumstances of the fall and assured the worker’s family they would receive all outstanding payments owed.
