Asos Slaps £3.95 Return Fee on Some Shoppers
Asos customers face a fresh pain – a fee to return unwanted items. The fashion giant, known for free returns, has quietly rolled out a £3.95 charge for certain shoppers sending items back.
£3.95 Return Fee Hits Frequent Returners
Over the weekend, Asos emailed customers who it says have a “frequently high return rate.” If you keep under £40 worth of your order, expect £3.95 clipped off your refund, according to BBC News. The new rule hits those who snap up goods but send most of it back.
“We’re making this change so that we can continue offering free returns to all our customers,” Asos told the BBC.
The brand added that most shoppers won’t feel the pinch, but a select few with big return habits will see the new charge unless they keep £40 or more per order.
What Counts as a ‘High Return Rate’?
Asos hasn’t detailed what exactly a “frequently high return rate” means. But if you’re flagged, that £3.95 fee will come into play on returns where you keep less than £40 worth of items.
Premier Shoppers Get Slightly Softer Rules
Asos Premier customers, who pay for speedy next-day delivery, have a lower threshold. They need only keep £15 worth of goods to dodge the return fee.
Similar Fees Already Hit France, Germany, and US
Asos rolled out these return thresholds earlier this year in France, Germany, and the US. Now UK shoppers feel the squeeze as the brand clamps down on heavy return abuse.
Shoppers beware: returning isn’t quite free anymore if you’re on Asos’s naughty list.
