A deadly explosion rocked the Al-Ahli Arab Hospital in Gaza, but France’s military intelligence agency, the Directorate of Military Intelligence (DRM), has handed down a bombshell conclusion. They say it was a misfiring Palestinian rocket, not an Israeli missile, behind the blast.
DRM Analysis Blames Palestinian Rocket, Not Israel
On Friday, the DRM revealed its findings based on classified info, satellite images, and intelligence from allied countries. A senior French military official insisted the explosion was caused by an errant Palestinian rocket carrying about 5kg of explosives. The size of the blast and the small crater ruled out an Israeli missile strike.
The DRM didn’t confirm the death toll but suggested it was likely lower than the 471 fatalities reported by Palestinian sources.
Mixed Claims Spark Outrage and Global Reactions
The attack has set off a firestorm of accusations and protests across the Middle East. Palestinian officials say Israel carried out the strike. Meanwhile, Israel blames the militant group Palestinian Islamic Jihad for firing the rocket – a claim the group denies.
Earlier this week, the US National Security Council also cleared Israel, sparking more controversy. Gaza’s health ministry sticks to its casualty number of 471, though Israel disputes this figure.
UN Demands Independent Probe as Tensions Surge
With tensions boiling over, the United Nations has called for an independent investigation. Ravina Shamdasani, spokesperson for the UN Human Rights Office, stressed the urgent need for accountability amid the highly complex and politically charged environment.
