Hamas to Release Four Israeli Female Soldiers After 477 Days in Captivity
Four IDF Hostages Set Free This Saturday
Hamas has announced it will release four Israeli female soldiers this Saturday, ending their 477-day ordeal as hostages. The women—Liri Albag, 19, Daniella Gilboa, 20, Karina Ariev, 20, and Naama Levy, 20—were abducted during Hamas’s savage attack on October 7, 2023.
Ceasefire Terms Bent But Not Broken
The release breaks the agreed ceasefire terms, which required female civilians to be freed before female soldiers. Yet, Israel decided the breach wasn’t serious enough to derail the fragile truce. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Israel Katz met to confirm the ceasefire would hold despite the violation.
Hostage Swap Deal Underway
The hostage release is part of a phased deal to exchange 33 hostages for Palestinian prisoners. For each freed female soldier, Israel will release 50 Palestinian prisoners, including 30 convicted terrorists. Families of the four women have been informed.
More Updates Expected This Weekend
Israel awaits further details from Hamas about the remaining 30 captives. However, there are fears Hamas may only offer vague information, rather than specifics. Meanwhile, displaced Palestinians will soon be allowed to return to northern Gaza through the Netzarim Corridor starting Saturday.
This comes after weeks of intense negotiations and multiple hostage releases, including three civilian women earlier this week. As Israel works tirelessly to bring all citizens home, hope mingles with anxiety.
