Wild 'Rice-Tusker' Elephant Nabbed After Deadly Rampage in Kerala
Deadly Elephant Drama Ends
Forest officials in Kerala have finally caught the infamous wild tusker known as “rice-tusker” for its love of rice and grains. This rogue elephant has been linked to the deaths of at least six people, sparking fear across the region.
Massive Operation to Capture the Beast
Earlier attempts to capture the elephant failed, but this time a huge team of 150 forest officers used five tranquiliser darts to subdue the stubborn animal. Despite fierce resistance, they managed to restrain the 30-year-old male elephant and prepare it for relocation.
High-Tech Tracking and Careful Relocation
The elephant was fitted with a GPS collar to track its future movements. Officials tied its legs and covered its eyes with cloth to keep it calm. Four trained kumki elephants were employed to gently maneuver the wild tusker into a transport truck destined for a wildlife reserve, providing a safer habitat away from humans.
Human-Animal Conflicts on the Rise
Encroachment on wildlife areas is pushing India’s growing human population and wild animals into dangerous clashes. As settlements expand, natural habitats shrink, making such confrontations more frequent and deadly. Experts warn that tensions between humans and wildlife are set to rise unless urgent action is taken.
