Chaos in Hackney: Police Hunt After Unlicensed Rave Turns Violent
Detectives are on the hunt after a wild unlicensed music event in Hackney erupted into violence and chaos late Friday night. The illegal party, held on the Woodberry Down Estate, sparked panic among local residents and fierce clashes with police.
Rave Sparks Violence and Injuries
- Police flooded the scene from 11pm after numerous calls from terrified locals.
- Officers initially tried to peacefully disperse the crowd, but many refused and became aggressive.
- A Dispersal Zone was enforced under anti-social behaviour laws, allowing cops to order the crowd to leave or face arrest.
- Public order officers were forced to move in after attempts to calm the group failed, meeting hostility and being pelted with canisters, bottles, and even a bicycle.
- Two officers were hurt; one suffered bruised ribs and was hospitalised but has since been discharged, the other injured his leg but stayed on duty.
- Two men aged 18 and 19 were arrested – one for violent disorder, the other for obstruction – and remain in custody.
Police Appeal for Public Help Identifying Suspects
Detectives have scoured CCTV, officer body cams, and social media clips to identify those involved in the violence. They have released images of eight suspects, urging Londoners to come forward.
Deputy Assistant Commissioner Lucy D’Orsi said: “This violence is totally unacceptable and has left local communities scared and vulnerable. Unlicensed events like this are illegal, unsafe, and put everyone at risk, especially with COVID-19 still a threat. We urge people to discourage friends and family from attending.”
She added: “We’ve increased patrols and will use stop-and-search tactics to keep our communities safe. Those involved in criminal behaviour will be arrested.”
