Teenager Escapes man after attempted Daytime Street Robbery in Southampton

Police are appealing for information following an attempted robbery in Southampton. A 19-year-old man was walking along a path in Peartree Common, in the wooded area behind Bryanston Road, when he felt someone grab his rucksack from behind. The teenager turned around and lifted his arms, causing the man to let go of his rucksack. The victim managed to run off in the opposite direction of the suspect. Nothing was stolen but during the struggle, which happened between 1.30pm and 2pm on July 15, the victim suffered a cut to his elbow. The suspect is described as being white, around 6ft 1ins tall and of an average build. He was wearing a black hooded top with the hood up and loose fitting baggy black jeans. Police staff investigator Samira Hosseinmardi said: “Were you walking through Peartree Common that afternoon? Did you see a man matching this description run past? “We would like to speak to you as you may have information that could assist our investigation. “We would also like to take this opportunity to remind people to be vigilant and aware of your surroundings at all times and where possible, carry bags and belongings in front of you.” Anyone with information is asked to contact PSI Hosseinmardi on 101, quoting 44160264145, or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
