Itchen Bridge SHUT as man threatens to jump
The Itchen Bridge is shut in both directions this morning after a man threatened to jump from the structure. Police sealed off the bridge shortly after 12:40pm following reports of the man perched dangerously over the parapet.
High-Risk Standoff Underway
Officers on the scene describe the individual as “high risk” and are engaging in tense talks to prevent a tragedy. Several specialist police units have been deployed to manage the situation.
Rescue Teams scrambled
- Two lifeboats and a coastguard rescue team are standing by.
- A rescue helicopter is hovering overhead, ready to assist.
A police spokeswoman said: “Someone threatened to jump from the bridge and is being described as a high risk. We have sent a number of specialist officers to the scene.”
Motorists are urged to avoid the area as emergency services work to resolve the crisis.
