Sinkhole Disaster Hits Caversham Home After Burst Water Pipe!
A Caversham house has been left shaken and sunk after a sudden sinkhole appeared following a burst Thames Water pipe. The property suffered cracks, subsidence, and a driveway that dropped nearly two feet when the road collapsed on Kidmore Road.
Firefighters Race to Burst Pipe Crisis
Eight firefighters rushed to the scene on Sunday afternoon after emergency calls reported a water leak and road collapse. They quickly cordoned off the area to keep locals safe. Sandcroft Road remains closed at its junction with Kidmore Road as investigations continue.
Thames Water Scrambles to Find Cause
Justin Coffey, a Thames Water engineer, said: “We are investigating the cause of the hole as a matter of priority. We’re trying to understand why our cast iron water pipe burst and how it damaged the surrounding area.” Thames Water has alerted the local council and will bring in structural engineers to assess the building’s damage.
Neighbours Recall Similar Sinkhole Nightmare
Residents revealed this isn’t the first time Kidmore Road has suffered such chaos — a similar sinkhole struck around 20 years ago. Meanwhile, the homeowner has chosen to stay silent on the unfolding drama, calling it a private matter.
The road remains shut to all vehicles and pedestrians while the situation is assessed. Structural engineers are due onsite soon to inspect the damaged house and devise a repair plan.
