Two men charged with Rape after Police raids in Southampton

Detectives have charged two men following an investigation into an allegation of rape and modern day slavery in Southampton. Officers arrested 12 men as part of their enquiries on Tuesday 18 July. After being granted extensions on the detention of the men, officers have now charged two men and released six under investigation. Four men have been released with no further action. Valentine Merclusca, 49, of Avenue Road, Southampton, has been charged with two counts of rape and two offences under the Modern Day Slavery Act. Marius Stefan, 42, of Avenue Road, Southampton, has been charged with two counts of rape. The charges come after a 19-year-old woman reported she had been raped multiple times at an address in Southampton between July 9 and July 18. Both men will appear before Southampton Magistrates on Saturday 22 July.
