Jamie Oliver’s Gunwharf Italian Restaurant Set to Close

TV chef and Essex favourite Jamie Oliver looks set to lose the lease on his Italian eatery at Gunwharf Quays, our sources reveal. The popular restaurant, which opened in summer 2011, occupies a prime spot previously home to Donnay, a well-known retail brand now eyeing a comeback.

Landlord Plans Retail Revival

An insider at Gunwharf, speaking on condition of anonymity, told us: “Jamie’s Italian in Gunwharf is closing down. The landlord plans to split the space into three retail units. They’ve been given 30 days but it could shut even sooner.”

Restaurant Plays It Cool Amid Closure Rumours

A Jamie Oliver spokesperson responded cautiously, saying: “That is the rumour floating around but obviously I can’t say any more than that at the moment.” The restaurant continues to operate for now, but isn’t taking Christmas bookings just yet.

Looks like Gunwharf’s dining scene could be about to change – and retailers may be the next big winners.
