Murder investigation launched after 47-year-old man found dead in Camden

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was found dead at a business premises in Camden. Police were called by the London Ambulance Service at 14:41hrs on Tuesday, 17 April to reports of a man injured on the roof of a commercial building in Hatton Garden, EC1. Officers and London’s Ambulance attended. The victim, a 47-year-old man who worked as a builder and was carrying out work at the venue, was pronounced dead at the scene at 15:07hrs. Next of kin have been informed. Formal identification has not yet taken place. Initial reports indicated that the man may have fallen from height, but officers now believe he was the victim of a serious assault. The Met’s Homicide and Major Crime Command is investigating, led by DCI Luke Marks. A post-mortem examination was due to be held at St Pancras Mortuary today (Thursday, 19 April). We await information on cause of death. A 24-year-old man [A] was arrested on Thursday, 19 April on suspicion of murder. He has been taken to a south London police station. DCI Luke Marks said: “At this early stage in the inquiry, it is believed that the victim was viciously attacked by an unknown suspect, inflicting injuries that have resulted in his death. “We have made one arrest but our investigation continues apace. Our priority now is to trace a man who made off from Hatton Garden towards Chancery Lane and boarded a Central Line train at Chancery Lane tube station at around 14:15hrs. Were you in the Hatton Garden area at that time, and did you see a man running towards Chancery Lane, or otherwise acting suspiciously? We would urge you to come forward as soon as possible.” The man is described as a white male, aged in his mid 20s. He was wearing a navy blue fleece jacket, blue jeans and brown workmens boots.
