Terror Arrests at Dover: Belgian Couple Held by Counter Terror Police
Two Belgian nationals were slammed with terror suspicions at the UK’s busiest ferry port on Friday. A 38-year-old man and a 36-year-old woman were nabbed by Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) officers as they tried to enter the country.
Arrest Made Under Terrorism Act
The duo were detained under Section 41 of the Terrorism Act 2006. Detective Chief Superintendent Kath Barnes confirmed the arrest and stressed there was no immediate danger to the public.
“Officers at Dover stopped the pair under suspicion of terrorism offences as they tried to enter the country earlier today,” said Barnes. “I would like to praise the officers for the arrest and reassure the community that there was no imminent threat to members of public.”
Investigation Ongoing – Public Warned to Stay Vigilant
Police have secured a warrant to keep the pair in custody until at least Friday, 25 January, as the investigation digs deeper. Barnes urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
“Our investigation will continue and I would like to take this opportunity to urge members of the public to report anything that they find suspicious to the police.”
Both Suspects Remain in Custody
The Belgian man and woman remain behind bars pending further inquiry.
