Kent Fire Service Scores Big with ‘Good’ Rating in National Inspection
Kent Fire and Rescue Service has smashed it in a brand-new, nationwide inspection by HMICFRS, scooping a ‘good’ rating in all three key areas. This makes Kent one of the top fire services in the country, standing out among the 45 services judged across England so far.
Top Marks Across the Board
Inspectors visited Kent back in January, putting the service under the microscope to see how well it prevents fires, protects the public, and responds to emergencies. They also checked out how the service treats its staff – and Kent passed with flying colours.
The report praised Kent’s effective response to incidents and smart spending of public funds. Best of all, it highlighted “excellent wellbeing support” for employees, pointing to “a culture of trust and empowerment” and some downright outstanding staff practices.
Improvements Already Underway
Kent Fire is not resting on its laurels. It has already acted on inspector feedback, like updating local training records and beefing up the technical fire safety team to meet tough auditing targets.
“I’m pleased and proud that Kent has been graded a ‘good’ fire service, but we can strive for better – it’s part of our DNA,” said Ann Millington, Chief Executive of Kent Fire and Rescue Service. “This positive outcome wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of every member of our team.”
Nick Chard, Chairman of Kent and Medway Fire and Rescue Authority, added: “Kent Fire and Rescue Service is among the top performing fire services in the country following its ‘good’ inspection. Our firefighters and officers provide a service the community can truly be proud of.”
HMICFRS Praises Kent’s Innovation and Team Spirit
Zoë Billingham, HM Inspector of Fire and Rescue Services, said: “Kent is a modern and innovative service, ready to try new approaches. Many other services could learn from what they do.”
She also highlighted Kent’s excellent collaboration with police and ambulance teams, and the strong bond between staff and senior leaders, calling it an environment of “trust and empowerment” with some “outstanding” practices.
